The IPL is the busiest time of year for fantasy cricket, so it’s no surprise that searches for goplay11 ipl jump during the season. This article explains how IPL fantasy contests usually work, gives T20-specific tips you can use on any platform, and sets out how India’s online gaming law has changed things since the 2025 season.
GoPlays11 is an independent news and information site. We are not the GoPlay11 app, we are not linked to its operators, and we do not host or distribute any APK files.
GoPlay11 has no known official link to the IPL or the BCCI, and neither does this site. “IPL” here refers only to the cricket being played.
How GoPlay11 IPL contests are described
Third-party guides say GoPlay11 lists IPL matches as fixtures when the season is on, alongside international and other league games. The mechanics are standard: pick eleven players from the two teams, choose a captain and vice-captain, and score live points. We couldn’t verify contest formats, prize structures or any IPL-specific features, so we don’t describe them here.
Why the IPL is different for fantasy players
A few things set IPL fantasy apart from fantasy for international cricket:
- Impact players. The IPL’s substitute rule means one extra player can come in mid-match. Check how your platform scores substitutes, because the rules vary.
- Overseas player limits. Each side can field only four overseas players, which affects who actually plays.
- Venue patterns. Some grounds are known for big totals, others for spin. A season’s worth of data builds up quickly.
- Back-to-back fixtures. With matches almost every day, form, travel and squad rotation matter more.
T20 fantasy tips for IPL matches
Favour top-order batters
Openers and number-three batters face the most balls in a T20. That gives them the best chance of big point totals.
Back death-overs bowlers
Bowlers who bowl at the end of an innings often pick up wickets as batters swing for the boundary. Their economy may suffer, but wickets are usually worth more.
Check the toss and the dew
In evening matches, dew can make bowling second harder. If the side batting second is strong, their top order makes a good captaincy pick.
Use all-rounders wisely
An all-rounder who bats in the top six and bowls four overs is one of the most valuable picks in T20 fantasy.

How the law changed IPL fantasy
For years, paid fantasy contests were a big part of the IPL experience for many fans. That ended with the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025. Big operators stopped paid contests in August 2025, and the full ban on online money games took effect on 1 May 2026, during the 2026 IPL season. The Online Gaming Authority of India has since told app stores, banks and advertisers to stop enabling these games.
So fans can still enjoy fantasy cricket during the IPL, but only in free-to-play formats with no entry fee and no cash prize. Treat any app or site still promoting paid IPL contests to Indian users with real caution.
Legal note for readers in India: The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 and the Online Gaming Rules, 2026 came into force on 1 May 2026. Together they ban online money games: any online game where you pay a fee or deposit money hoping to win money back. The ban covers games of skill, chance or both, and it includes paid fantasy sports contests. The Act also bans advertising these games and bars banks and payment services from processing payments for them. A challenge to the Act is pending before the Supreme Court. As of early November 2026, no final ruling has been reported, so the law applies in full. Free-to-play games with no stakes are not covered by the ban. This is general information, not legal advice.

Responsible gaming
Fantasy sports should be a bit of fun around a match you already enjoy, not a way to make money. Set a time limit, take breaks, and never chase losses. If gaming has stopped being enjoyable, talk to someone you trust or a qualified counsellor.
