Free-to-play is now the legal way to play in India
Since 1 May 2026, the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 has banned every online game where you stake money hoping to win money, whether it’s based on skill or chance. That puts paid fantasy contests squarely inside the ban. Free-to-play fantasy games, with no entry fee and no cash prize, are still allowed, and the big platforms have switched to them.
So if the GoPlay11 fantasy app, or any other app, invites Indian users to deposit money for contests, that offering falls within the banned category. Payments may be blocked, and you’d have little legal protection.
Legal note for readers in India: The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 and the Online Gaming Rules, 2026 came into force on 1 May 2026. Together they ban online money games: any online game where you pay a fee or deposit money hoping to win money back. The Act also bans advertising these games and bars banks and payment services from processing payments for them. A challenge to the Act is pending before the Supreme Court.
