Grand Theft Auto VI launches on 19 November 2026, and the GTA 6 preload opens nine days earlier, on 10 November. It is a big download: PlayStation says you need at least 212GB of free space on a PS5. This guide sets out the confirmed preload times converted to Indian time, the console settings PlayStation recommends switching on now, and what to do if the download does not start.
GTA 6 preload dates and times in India
The PlayStation Blog says pre-download opens “starting at November 10 local midnight” for players who have pre-ordered. According to The Verge, Rockstar confirmed that Xbox Series X|S preloading starts at 12 am GMT on 10 November.
- PS5 preload (India): 12:00 am IST, Tuesday 10 November. This is the midnight between Monday and Tuesday, because PS5 preloads unlock at local midnight.
- Xbox Series X|S preload (India): 5:30 am IST, Tuesday 10 November (our conversion from 12 am GMT).
- PS5 release: PlayStation Support says the game “releases at midnight local time on November 19, 2026”, which is 12:00 am IST on Thursday 19 November.
None of the sources we checked gives an exact Xbox unlock time on launch day, so we have not guessed one.
How much space does GTA 6 need?
PlayStation’s official guidance is to clear “a minimum of 212GB of storage space on your PS5”. Rockstar told The Verge the preload needs up to 212GB “depending on your device”, so the figure may differ slightly on Xbox. To check your free space on PS5, go to Settings > Storage. To make room, delete data you no longer need or move games to another storage device.
The Verge also reports that GTA VI costs $79.99 and is sold only as a digital download. The physical “Code-In-Box” edition contains just a download code, and PlayStation Support confirms that “a disc will not be included in the box.”
PS5 checklist: settings to turn on before 10 November
These steps come from PlayStation’s GTA VI support page:
- Check your pre-order. Select your avatar, then Order History, and confirm the GTA VI order is there.
- Redeem a Code-In-Box code through your avatar, then Redeem Code, so the preload can start.
- Enable auto-download. Go to Game Library > Your Collection, select the GTA VI pre-order, select the countdown timer, and tick the box next to GTA VI.
- Stay connected in Rest Mode. Go to Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode and turn on Stay Connected to the Internet.
- Enter Rest Mode before the preload starts. Open the control centre and select Power > Enter Rest Mode.
- Turn on automatic system updates. Go to Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings.
- Shared console? Enable Console Sharing and Offline Play under Settings > Users and Accounts > Other, so other accounts on the console can play.
If the preload does not start
PlayStation suggests opening Downloads/Uploads from the control centre and pausing, then resuming, the GTA VI download. If that does not work, select Cancel and Delete, return to the Game Library, and turn auto-download on again. Also check that you are signed in to the account that placed the pre-order, that the console is online, that it has enough free storage, and that its system software is up to date.
Languages
According to PlayStation Support, voice acting is in English only. On-screen text is available in 13 languages, including French, German, Japanese, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese and simplified and traditional Chinese. No Indian languages are listed.
Why it matters
A 212GB download can take a long time on many home broadband connections, so the nine-day preload window matters, particularly if you share a connection. Starting the preload as soon as it opens on 10 November gives you the best chance of playing at midnight on launch day. GoPlays11 will cover launch-day news as it arrives.
