Phantom Blade Zero sales have passed four million copies in just 72 hours, developer S-GAME has announced. The wuxia action RPG launched digitally on PlayStation 5 and PC on 29 October 2026. It’s one of the strongest debuts of the year, and an especially big one for a studio releasing its first major console and PC game. Here’s what we know about the milestone, how players and critics have received the game, and how it compares with other recent hits.
Phantom Blade Zero sales: the four million milestone
S-GAME shared the figure on X with a short thank-you message to players: “Phantom Blade Zero has sold over 4 million copies in just 72 hours!”, RPG Site reports. The total covers PS5 and PC, where the game is sold on Steam and the Epic Games Store, according to Gematsu.
The game launched digitally only. A physical PS5 edition is planned for 2027. RPG Site lists the Standard Edition at $59.99 and the Deluxe Edition at $69.99.
What is Phantom Blade Zero?
Phantom Blade Zero is an action RPG built in Unreal Engine 5. S-GAME’s official description, quoted by Gematsu, sets out the main ideas:
- The story: you play as Soul, a warrior framed for his master’s death who has only sixty-six days left to live. He’s hunted by former comrades while he tries to uncover the conspiracy against him.
- The style: S-GAME calls it “Kungfupunk”, a mix of martial arts and machinery inspired by the golden age of Hong Kong action cinema. The world also draws on fantasy and folk horror.
- The combat: there are more than thirty weapons and more than twenty “Phantom Edges” to mix and match. Beating powerful enemies earns you their weapons and signature techniques.
- The animation: fights use motion capture of fight choreography in the style of Hong Kong martial arts films.
How players and critics have reacted
S-GAME’s sales graphic also highlighted user scores, Wccftech reports:
- Metacritic user score: 93 on PS5 and 88 on PC
- Steam user reviews: 89% positive
- PlayStation Store rating: 4.71 out of 5
Critics have been positive too. Wccftech puts the Metacritic critic scores at 87 on PS5 and 88 on PC, and its own review gave the game 10 out of 10. In other words, PS5 players have so far rated it slightly higher than critics have.
Steam player numbers
Wccftech also reports that Phantom Blade Zero hit a concurrent peak of about 833,000 players on Steam over its launch weekend. That was enough to put it in Steam’s all-time top 10 for concurrent players, just above Battlefield 6 and below Baldur’s Gate 3.
How it compares with Black Myth: Wukong
The obvious comparison is Black Myth: Wukong, another Chinese-developed action game that launched on PS5 and PC. Wccftech notes that Wukong sold 10 million units in its first three days in August 2024 and peaked at about 2.4 million concurrent players on Steam. That puts Phantom Blade Zero at roughly 40% of Wukong’s launch pace.
That’s still a huge result. Few games of any kind sell four million copies in three days, and S-GAME got there with its first major console and PC release. Wukong set a record that very few games will match.
Why it matters
- Chinese studios are now a major force in premium action games. After Wukong, Phantom Blade Zero shows that strong single-player games from China can sell to a global audience on console and PC.
- Single-player games still sell. In a market full of free-to-play live-service games, a fully priced, story-driven action RPG has found millions of buyers in a few days.
- More to come. A physical PS5 edition in 2027 and strong word of mouth suggest sales could keep climbing.
