More than eight years after its first title card was shown in 2018, Bethesda Game Studios has given its next RPG a full name. On 3 November 2026 the studio confirmed it as The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, set in the Tamriel province of Hammerfell. Here is everything about Elder Scrolls 6 Sentinel that has actually been confirmed so far, what has only been reported, and what we still do not know.

The Elder Scrolls 6 Sentinel name reveal

The title was revealed in a short video, published on Xbox Wire as “The Elder Scrolls VI: Official Name Reveal”, to mark Bethesda Game Studios’ 40th anniversary. Eurogamer worked out that the reveal came “eight years, four months, and 23 days” after the first title card, and almost exactly 15 years after The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim launched.

According to Eurogamer, the trailer shows a brief look at the game, much of it focused on sand physics, before the name Sentinel appears. A message from the studio accompanies the video: “For 40 years, we’ve explored new worlds, told unforgettable stories, and gone on incredible adventures together… Here’s to 40 more.”

What Bethesda has confirmed

  • Full title: The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel.
  • Location: Hammerfell. Bethesda’s follow-up post on Bluesky, quoted by PC Gamer, said: “it feels great to finally reveal the name and location with you.”
  • Development status: “Development continues, and while it’ll be some time before we’re ready to share more…” (same post).
  • No release date or platforms: none were announced alongside the name.

The quote that hints at the story

The trailer includes a line attributed to Yazar, Moth Priest of High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell: “The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate.” Wccftech notes that the quote is dated 4E 206, which is five years after Skyrim in the series timeline. The site points out that this does not necessarily mean the game is set in that year. The quote suggests the Elder Scrolls themselves, the series’ prophetic artefacts, will be part of the plot.

What has only been reported

Release timing

Bethesda has not given a date. Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier said on Bluesky that the game is “still more than two years away”, PC Gamer reports. When readers asked about it, he said it was not a prediction and that he knows “the time frame the game is targeting”. Wccftech links the timing to reports about Microsoft’s next Xbox hardware, but that is the site’s own speculation, not confirmation from Microsoft or Bethesda.

Who has played it

Eurogamer reports that Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said she played the game in August during a visit to Bethesda’s offices. Eurogamer also notes that the reveal comes less than six months after job cuts at Bethesda and other Microsoft-owned studios.

Why Bethesda waited so long

Eurogamer recalls a 2023 interview in which Skyrim lead designer Bruce Nesmith said the studio felt pressure to announce the game early, and that Todd Howard prefers to start talking about a game about six months before release, as Bethesda did with Fallout 4. PC Gamer adds that Starfield, released in 2023, was the studio’s priority for years. Howard has said The Elder Scrolls VI was in pre-production while Starfield was in full production.

Why it matters

The Elder Scrolls VI is one of the most anticipated games of the past decade, and a name and setting are the first concrete details in eight years. For players in India, the realistic takeaway is patience: going by Bethesda’s own words and Schreier’s reporting, a 2026 or 2027 release looks unlikely. Eurogamer suggests The Game Awards on 10 December 2026 as the most likely next place to see the game, but that is speculation. Meanwhile, two other big returns arrived this week: World of Warcraft: Forever’s launch and the Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2. GoPlays11 will update this page as Bethesda shares more.
